Parkbuurt Almelo becomes Twente’s family neighbourhood
Where people know each other, encounters happen naturally. From neighborhood events and markets to cafés and sports activities: a strong sense of togetherness follows. Initiatives such as walking groups, climbing parks and shared community gardens make it easy to stay active and support one another. That’s how a close-knit community grows , one where residents can truly rely on each other.
When residents are invited to co-create, they take ownership. We open the door to ideas — from shared green projects and community upkeep to art initiatives, cultural events and new local businesses. We design spaces that encourage initiative. Residents step up, shape their surroundings and bring their neighborhood to life.
Social interaction fuels both mental and physical health. We design healthy neighborhoods where playgrounds, sports groups and shared community gardens keep residents active and connected. Staying active together strengthens mental resilience and reduces the risk of chronic disease. That’s how overall well-being grows throughout the neighborhood.
Sustainability ranges from smart solutions for energy, mobility and biodiversity to climate adaptation. We set the bar higher than national standards and work alongside leaders in sustainable innovation. Resident involvement matters just as much. That’s why we design in a way that naturally fosters a sense of responsibility for the environment.
In our neighborhoods, you feel at home. A welcoming and familiar atmosphere grows through thoughtful lighting, clear sightlines, lively public spaces and routes that make sense. Built on smart solutions and designed for everyone. This creates an environment where chance encounters turn into new friendships, and where a community naturally looks out for one another.
very project starts with observing, researching and listening, without judgement. Then we move into a sharp analysis. What makes a neighborhood strong? What is missing? And how can residents, neighbors, entrepreneurs and the municipality contribute?
We begin with a baseline assessment of how places are used today. We combine data on mobility, green space, amenities, safety and climate with neighborhood conversations, site visits and community walks. These insights feed into our Creator of Vibrant Neighborhoods.
This method helps us define the ambition and core values that guide the development of a neighborhood. We translate those values into a spatial study and capture the outcome in the Blueprint, a vision document that shows what the neighborhood will look like, where we are heading and how decisions are made. It forms the foundation for creating the neighborhood.
We involve residents and stakeholders as early as possible. Their input shapes every step, from design to long-term management. With area data and measurable goals, we track progress over time. The result is a growing knowledge base that strengthens this project and future neighborhoods.
